Director In Residence - King’s School, Ely

As the Director in Residence at King’s Ely, I brought a passion for theatre and a commitment to supporting young people across all age groups.

Through these programmes I participated in and oversaw, I aimed to inspire, challenge, and support students, helping them to discover their potential and develop a lifelong love for the arts.

Directing

I directed numerous productions whilst at King’s, directing students from Year 5 to Year 13. Highlights include an acclaimed production of Euripides’ Medea and large-scale projects such as a whole school musical theatre showcase. I also co-directed the Year 9-11 production of the RSC’s Wendy and Peter Pan and assisted with the senior musical Legally Blonde.

Outreach

I founded and lead the King’s Ely Theatre Outreach group, training students to create and facilitate workshops for local state primary schools. In 2023, we provided free workshops to over 200 local Year 5 and 6 students. This initiative not only enhanced students' skills but also fosters a strong sense of community and collaboration.

New Views

I facilitated the school’s first ever participation in the National Theatre’s New Views programme - a playwriting course and competition for young people. I dramaturgically supported the creation of multiple young writers’ first ever plays, one of which made the national long list.

Improv

Improv is a powerful tool for creativity and quick thinking. I design and lead regular comedy improv classes for students as young as Year 5, and I also extend these sessions to my fellow staff, promoting a fun and dynamic learning environment.

School Clubs

I oversaw a variety of extracurricular activities, including storytelling sessions for Years 3 and 4, improv for Years 5 through 8, and acting technique classes for Years 7 through 13.

Masterclasses

To further enrich our students' experience, I organise fortnightly masterclasses for senior school students, bringing in expert practitioners and facilitators from London and East Anglia, providing students unique opportunities to learn from industry professionals and gain insights into the world of theatre.
